Shen Zhiyan transmigrates into a novel as the powerful Regent.
To change the original character's tragic ending, he follows the plot prompts and clears a path through thorns and blades, helping the novel's protagonist, the Seventeenth Prince, ascend the throne. He sheds blood, takes wounds, drinks poison, and even fulfills the young emperor's deepest desire on the night of his accession, becoming the "heaven-sent gift" the emperor calls him.
He thinks his remaining days will be peaceful and carefree, spent in each other's arms. But once the supreme ruler has secured his throne, an assassination order ends Shen Zhiyan's life.
When he opens his eyes again, snow is falling. A black leopard with golden eyes, lying at his feet, leaps up and speaks: "Host, we're doomed! The mission failed. We have to reload and start over. Will you keep protecting Xiao Junchi and helping him become emperor?"
Shen Zhiyan strokes the white fox-fur cloak the Seventeenth Prince once hunted for him and laughs coldly. "Why should I protect a wolf cub that can never be tamed?"
Yet beneath the palace walls, the wolf cub pins him down, eyes bloodshot, and swears, "I didn't give that assassination order. Can you... trust me one more time?"
Reader's guide:
1. Happy ending, both leads are reborn.
2. The Regent is ruthless, but gorgeous and fierce.
3. The young emperor is extreme and violent, but has maxed-out loyal-dog traits.
Neither lead is truly good and kind. They're both dark, but in different ways.
They love and kill each other. The young emperor is mainly responsible for the loving; the Regent is mainly responsible for the killing.
*The cover shows the Regent and his leopard.
