This is the story of Qiao Jiu, who inherited the Qiao family's ancestral business at age twenty and became the thirtieth-generation owner of the Qiao family coffin shop.
As the last light faded and night fell, yin and yang turned in their endless cycle. Red candles burned beside the Broken Soul Bridge, and the Qiao family coffin shop's neon sign lit up in colorful hues, opening for business.
Qiao Jiu had just finished making his twenty-third coffin when his twenty-second customer arrived right on schedule.
The customer entered the shop, shrouded in black cloth. His face was impossible to see, but the trail of water beneath him revealed where he had come from.
Sitting behind the counter, Qiao Jiu merely lifted his eyes and said expressionlessly, "Drowned to death. A green coffin, three clusters of soul fire."
The customer paid the agreed price in soul fire. Qiao Jiu gathered the soul fire in his palm. "I'll help you fulfill your wish."
"Payment made, coffin entered, lid closed, burial completed."
Theme: Every unyielding soul can find a place to rest.
