The Victim

#Short mystery story#

Blurb:

A headless woman's body is found in a remote wilderness. Her identity cannot be determined, and the case goes cold.

Half a month later, another headless woman's body is found in an unfinished building. All of the victim's identifying information has been destroyed, making it difficult to collect evidence. The case goes cold as well.

After a third headless woman's body is discovered, and the killer's methods are found to be similar, Xiang Xin applies to have the cases linked.

Just after the application is submitted, a bloated headless man's body is found by the river. All evidence of similarities is invalidated, and the case reaches a dead end.

The victims seem to be connected, yet no evidence can be found. Xiang Xin pursues the case relentlessly, and just as she's about to touch the truth, she faces the greatest test of her career in law enforcement.

Are they the killers, or the victims?
