An Qi, a Chinese-style creative cake designer, has grown tired of the 996 work schedule. She quits her job and returns to her hometown with a cat, dreaming of a happy, lazy life. Instead, she suddenly transmigrates into the body of a poor young woman whose fiance was stolen by her legitimate older sister and who has been thrown out of her home.
Looking at her frail mother and tiny, adorable little sister, An Qi can only open a little cake stall, though all she wants is a lazy life.
No oven? She builds one. No mixer? She makes one herself. No cream? Well... she makes that herself, too...
The dessert stall at the market starts out selling only "cupcakes," but they're available for a limited time and in limited quantities, and they sell out instantly. Later, she adds caramel pudding, molten salted-egg cake, cheesecake...
The stall grows into a shop, and with a steady income, An Qi can go back to enjoying her lazy life.
Then, for the birthday banquet of a regular customer, the Prime Minister's daughter, she brings an elaborate Chinese-style dessert display. Colorful macarons, beautiful fondant cakes, delicate peony sugar flowers, and cute animal cookies look like a dream among the fresh flowers, instantly winning over the daughters of the most prominent families!
From then on, An Qi's dessert displays become a status symbol. Noble ladies and wealthy wives compete to place orders, and her cakes become so sought-after that they're nearly impossible to get. An Qi had wanted a lazy life, but now she's forced to open one cake shop after another.
Suitors crowd around her shop, even the fiance who once broke off their engagement, now begging to get back together after abandoning her older sister.
Fed up with them all, An Qi points casually at the shop's manager. "I'll choose him."
Manager: Well... this came out of nowhere...
The manager is tall and handsome, can charm a banquet hall and keep the accounts in order, but he's lost a leg and has no work. An Qi takes him in, and he handles the books, runs the shop, and helps raise the children, all in one.
One day, the emperor dies, and her manager disappears, too.
Several months later, the new emperor ascends the throne and specifically orders a dessert display from An Qi.
When An Qi arrives, she discovers that the man who strides effortlessly to the throne looks an awful lot like her manager.
The new emperor gazes at her lovingly. "Come here, Empress!"
