I Became Emperor in the World of Liaozhai

Palace Secrets: The late emperor was extravagant and incompetent, and jealous of the talented. He drove the worthy Prince out of the realm, though the prince was the only one who could have stabilized the court, then sent assassins after him without pause.

Perhaps it was heaven's retribution: despite desperately wishing for an heir, the late emperor had none. Then, one day, drunk, he took a palace maid to bed and unexpectedly fathered a son. Overjoyed, he immediately named the boy crown prince, and the maid was elevated to empress on the strength of her son's status.

As the crown prince grew, his face came to look more and more like the worthy prince's. The late emperor was furious and shocked. While confronting the empress, he died alongside her. This was the late emperor and empress's greatest scandal.

At just thirteen, the crown prince inherited the throne with the ministers' support. Everyone in court knew he was cursed to be an ill-fated, lonely star: he had brought ruin to both his parents and had been born under an ill omen.

Treacherous ministers and sycophants fought for power, while sending all kinds of beauties to the new emperor. As the court descended into chaos, demons and monsters slipped in, and the harem became a chaotic mess as well.

"I'm that unlucky new emperor."

"My four consorts aren't human. One's a fox, one's a cat, one's a mouse, and one's a big rooster. The chancellor is secretly in love with the general, the general is devoted to the worthy prince, and the worthy prince's first love is one of my consorts. I wonder which one?"

"The empress died suddenly on the very first day she married me. They say my ill-fated-star curse killed her. But I saw her turn into a vengeful ghost, haunting the chancellor every day and demanding revenge."

The young emperor Jun said, "How do I know so much? How can I see ghosts and subdue monsters? Of course it's because I'm a descendant of the dragon."

He stroked the fox's fur. "You can't blame King Zhou for being captivated by Daji's beauty. Her fur really is soft. I'll give you a name, Foxy. How about 'First Love'?"

The fox trembled beneath the dragon's breath. "Boss, I swear I'll never covet the rooster consort again QAQ"

His fierce will to survive kept the usually sly and greedy fox spirit from giving in to his appetite.
