A Chance Encounter After Marrying Far Away

[First-person blurb, third-person main story] Note from 2025.7.7

My name is Yao Chu Xie. The year after graduating from university, I met Ji Hou in Xicheng, far from my hometown.

He was steady and calm, never rash, and had no bad habits.

After two years together, things were pretty good, apart from a few minor clashes in daily life, so we started talking about marriage.

After all, it was nice to have someone familiar and considerate when living far from home.

At the time, I didn't think marriage was a binding of interests rather than an extension of love.

We hadn't bought a marital home. I helped pay back the 68,000 yuan bride price, and half of the money we'd received as wedding gifts went toward the wedding banquet, which should have been paid for by his family. The ridiculous part was that my mother-in-law, who had given me only 2,000 yuan the first time we met, asked to borrow money just two months after the wedding.

But I loved Ji Hou. I was unhappy, but for his sake, I put up with it.

It was just that what I thought of as love, patience, and thoughtfulness probably looked to others like a sign that I could be pushed around.

It wasn't until I might not even be able to decide when to have a child that I suddenly realized I might be a complete fool in this marriage!
