After Failing to Marry the Princess, I Became the Crown Princess

I'm planning to start this story, so add it to your favorites if you're interested.

Shen Zhixing has just taken up his new post and is sent with the army to the border to escort the Crown Prince and Princess, who have been hostages for ten years.

The siblings are twins, a boy and a girl, born to the late Empress. After the Kingdom of Chu lost a war, they were sent to the enemy country as hostages and suffered terribly.

The journey home is fraught with danger. Shen Zhixing never sees the sickly Crown Prince, Xiahou Ji, but he does find himself falling for Princess Xiahou Jing.

Fortunately, the princess seems to return his feelings, and the two are utterly smitten with each other along the way.

As they part, the princess says shyly, "When we get back to the capital, I'll tell you a little secret. You mustn't get mad."

Shen Zhixing vows his whole life to her: "No matter what happens, I will always love you."

But before Shen Zhixing can beg his father to ask the Emperor for the princess's hand, he meets the Crown Prince for the first time.

The Crown Prince has the same beautiful face as the princess, and repeats the vow Shen Zhixing had only ever shared with her in private.

Surprised, Shen Zhixing steps forward with a smile. "Since you already know, dear brother-in-law, I'll be counting on your help with my marriage to the princess."

Xiahou Ji, who had been looking forward to surprising his beloved: "..."

He gives a dark smile and says, "The princess is delicate. How old are you now?"

"If you want to marry the princess, keep dreaming."

Before meeting Shen Zhixing, Xiahou Ji thought being forced to dress as a woman was the greatest humiliation of his life.

After meeting Shen Zhixing, he swallowed his pride and put on a skirt again, doing the one thing he had always scorned: seducing him.

Luckily, he finally manages to trick the man into coming home and making him the Crown Princess. On their wedding night, Xiahou Ji smiles meaningfully. "Didn't you say you'd take good care of me, husband? Then get on with it."

Shen Zhixing can't help but choke up. "...Sob."

Is it too late to regret this now?
