She's a Coward

My upcoming unrequited-love story next door, The Lychee Record Player, is open for follows. Please add it to your list, dear readers!

Blurb:

After the parent-teacher meeting, her grades fell to fourth in her class.

Her father, both angry and disappointed, asked in a grave voice, “Why did your grades drop? Are you dating someone? Or is there someone you like?”

The living room fell silent. The ticking of the clock’s second hand was crystal clear.

Jiang Lai heard herself, the well-behaved girl in her parents’ eyes, deny it: “No.”

She was such a coward. She didn’t even dare admit that she liked someone.

Note: Short story with a bad ending.

Theme: Everyone has regrets in their youth
