The Buddhist-Minded Actress Doesn’t Want to Become Famous

Jiang Ning became famous at a young age, the youngest actress ever to win the three major film awards.

That is, until a set of paparazzi photos was leaked.

In them, on a grimy alleyway on a rainy night, she had a boy pinned against the wall, her pale back bare.

The public was in an uproar. The entire internet condemned her.

Then, at the height of the scandal, Jiang Ning fell off a cliff in a wire accident and died.

Before her body was even cold, an immense wave of condemnation swept across the internet.

Her parents, now past fifty, were dragged down with her and became public enemy number one.

To pay the exorbitant breach-of-contract fees, her brother worked overtime until he collapsed and died alone in the middle of the night.

Her devoted fans, trying to clear her name, were driven to violence, staining their hands with blood and ruining their futures.

It had all been a dream.

The place she'd thought was a dream factory was really somewhere that tore you apart and devoured you.

Jiang Ning was reborn on that rainy night. Standing before the bloodied boy, she hesitated for a moment, but in the end she made the same choice.

When Jiang Ning was a junior in college, a young man named Cheng Yan rose to fame in the entertainment industry.

But that had nothing to do with Jiang Ning anymore.

She gave up on her acting-school entrance exams and made a successful career as a fashion blogger who never showed her face.

Until Director Fu, the leading figure in Chinese cinema, announced the female lead for his first film in ten years, Misty Night: @JiangJiangNingNing.

Jiang Ning: ??

The internet exploded when an unknown, bottom-tier influencer was announced to be starring alongside top-tier star and award-winning actor Cheng Yan.

Amid the flood of ridicule, @JiangJiangNingNing reposted a post: Spreading rumors is against the law.

Netizens: ...??

A few minutes later, @ActorChengYan: Please.

@DirectorFuRusheng: Please +1.

Netizens: I don't understand what I'm seeing, but I'm deeply shaken.

On the night Misty Night once again cemented its legendary status, sweeping the awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture, and Best Director,

the hashtag #JiangNingScandal shot to the top of the trending list.

The alley on that rainy night, the girl and the boy: the photos caused an uproar all over again.

At the awards ceremony, reporters crowded around her, pressing her relentlessly.

"Ms. Jiang Ning, how do you explain the scandals about you?"

Jiang Ning lazily raised her eyes, her red lips cool and alluring as she prepared to speak.

Then Cheng Yan, the award-winning actor who had risen to fame young and was known for his aloof arrogance, spoke calmly. "Oh, that boy was me."

Director Fu took the microphone next. "That's what inspired Misty Night."

1. The female lead was framed. No love triangle.

2. Older woman-younger man romance. The female lead is three years older than the male lead.

3. Basically, it's the story of the female lead casually face-slapping her critics, reclaiming her throne, and joining the male lead to dominate the entertainment industry.

P.S. "I don't understand what I'm seeing, but I'm deeply shaken" is a quote from director Ang Lee on Bergman's The Virgin Spring.
