Tao Xiyin was accidentally injured by a master.

She landed in a ruined temple and accidentally swallowed poison powder, leaving her as good as crippled. After finally persuading a half-dead male cultivator to save her, she discovered that she was pregnant.

It was hard enough for a cultivator to give birth. The more Tao Xiyin thought about it, the more she resented what had happened. She decided to pin the child’s paternity on that master and keep at it until his reputation was ruined.

Tao (blustering) Xiyin: The child is his!

The (calmly accepting) master: That’s right. It’s mine.

Tao (agonized expression) Xiyin: Why isn’t he denying it?

Not only did the master not deny it, he also patiently indulged her in every way.

Tao Xiyin was shocked and suspicious. She grabbed her flying carpet and fled in the middle of the night. On the way, she ran into a man-eating evil spirit. Thinking she was about to die, she was instead overcome by hunger and swallowed it whole. While rubbing her full belly and wondering about the child’s father, she somehow switched bodies with that master.

Feeling the primordial power within her, Tao Xiyin looked at her own bewildered face and said with a pained (excited) expression:

"Every cause must have an effect. It seems even Heaven thinks the master ought to share the joy of parenthood with me. Until the child is born, I suppose I’ll just have to rid the world of demons in his place!"

Suxin accidentally killed a female cultivator once.

The second time, he only injured her by mistake, but his life hung by a thread. Their romantic entanglement should have been settled, and the pent-up gloom should have dissipated. Yet it was only when that female cultivator came to his door with his child that he finally understood: this karmic tie would never be severed in this lifetime.

Not only could it not be severed, he had also gained an unspeakable heart demon.

The wind in his ears sounded like a woman’s soft voice. Her loose black hair found its way into every crack, sinking into his bones.

Demons were wrong, and heart demons meant the heart itself was wrong. But Suxin could never work out when his heart had first gone astray.
