The teacher who works at midnight x the convenience store owner whose shop opens at dawn

(1)

Classes start at midnight, and school lets out at daybreak.

As the homeroom teacher, Jian Shou has to lead a class of ghost students all the way to graduation.

The only living person she can talk to on campus is the convenience store owner. Whenever Jian Shou chases the ghost students for their homework, he often gives them a place to hide.

One visit costs fifty. The ghosts are so poor they could cry.

The ghost students always thought their homeroom teacher and the store owner couldn't stand each other, until one day they saw the teacher whispering in the owner's ear.

"I'll drive them over to your place."

"We'll split it fifty-fifty."

"Deal."

In this age where humans and ghosts live side by side, Jian Shou has been possessed by ghosts several times. Her face is deathly pale, and her pupils are especially black, so people around her have shunned her since childhood.

But because of this, she gained an ability: she can see people's malice levels.

An ordinary person's malice level does not exceed 100, while a ghost's does not exceed 1,000.

Until one day, when she went to take the teacher certification exam at the Ghost Affairs Bureau, she met a very tall convenience store owner at the school where she was doing her placement. He held a cat in one arm and a ghost student by the scruff of the neck in the other, and asked her, "Is this your student?"

The malice level above his head: ∞

Jian Shou: "?"

Just how high is that?

Only later did she understand that it represented the death god's boundless goodwill and boundless malice toward humanity.
