Playing Nice

Lou Lizhi hadn't been living in the Yu family mansion for long when she got herself into serious trouble.

She accidentally broke the Yu family's old madam's most beloved vase.

When the old madam demanded to know what had happened, almost no one in the room said a word.

Lou Lizhi hid off to one side, not daring to make a sound.

She was afraid that if she admitted it, she'd be thrown out of the Yu family and left to wander the streets.

But she couldn't keep it hidden. A maid pointed her out on the spot. "I just saw Miss Lou run out of the old madam's room."

As soon as she said that, almost everyone's eyes turned to Lou Lizhi.

Everyone except the Yu family's second young master, Yu Shiyan.

She'd heard that the Yu family's second young master was polite and easy to talk to. He was probably the easiest person in the room to offend.

Lou Lizhi gazed up with big, innocent eyes, looking utterly obedient. She glanced over at Yu Shiyan. "I did walk into the wrong room just now, but when I went in, I saw Second Young Master coming out."

Yu Shiyan slowly lifted his gaze to meet Lou Lizhi's.

His features were striking, but his expression was impossible to read. His eyes held a dark, unfathomable danger.

Lou Lizhi's heart skipped a beat. Judging by his gloomy expression, the rumors must have been false. He looked like the last person anyone should offend.

She thought she was done for.

But soon, Yu Shiyan coolly tossed out, "Mm. I broke the vase."

It wasn't until much later, when Yu Shiyan had his way with Lou Lizhi several times in the middle of the night, that she finally realized she'd actually offended the one person in the Yu family she should never have crossed.
