#A bold, straightforward heroine x a male lead whose secret identity can't stay hidden after she flirts with him

Everyone in the capital knew Song Yanling was carefree. The thing she disliked most was the marriage her family had arranged for her. Her fiance, Fu Yu, was rumored to be a sickly man who couldn't fight and coughed up blood from time to time.

Though her fiance Fu Yu had never spoken out in public, everyone had heard about how, at the Hundred Flowers Banquet, he sat in a wooden chair behind a black veil that blocked everyone's view. Yet he showed special favor to Song Yanling's older sister, Song Miaomiao, inviting her behind the veil.

Fine. In that case, on the day of the wedding, Song Yanling finally found a chance to sling her bundle over her shoulder and leave.

The groom, who should have gone to fetch the bride, vanished too. Their marriage became a favorite topic of gossip throughout the capital.

Free of her engagement, Song Yanling pulled the jeweled hairpins from her head, tied her hair back with a red ribbon, and galloped off toward the frontier. The person she admired was none other than the jade-faced general leading the troops on this campaign.

With her martial skills, she gradually earned the trust of her superiors and a place at the table alongside the person she adored.

After their first victory, Song Yanling drank with the jade-faced general by the campfire. She sighed, "Running away from that marriage was absolutely the right choice."

The usually taciturn jade-faced general spoke from beneath his mask. "Miss Song, do you dislike Young Master Fu?"

"Of course. They say he coughs up blood every day, can't even lift a sword, and is in love with my sister. Why shouldn't I let the two of them be together?" The woman leaned back, radiating confidence and brilliance. Then she added, "If I'm going to like someone, I'd rather like a general like you."

The man's cheeks flushed beneath his mask, but he shot a sidelong glare at his guard, Zhao Er, his eyes full of menace. What was the story behind those rumors?!
