My other novel, "The Dowry Attendant," is currently updating. Its blurb is at the very end.
Blurb for "The Dowry Attendant":
Li Guanyue was the daughter of the finest incense maker in the land. When she was fourteen, her parents broke the law and died. To save their daughter's life, they sent her to serve under their friend, Duke Lu, under the guise of a servant.
Fortunately, the Lu family treated her well. Later, the emperor arranged a marriage between the Lu family and the general He Huai. Miss Lu was timid by nature and had heard that He Huai was moody and unpredictable, so she asked Guanyue to accompany her. After a year, once Miss Lu had adjusted, Guanyue would be sent back to the Lu estate and released from service ahead of schedule.
To repay the Lu family for taking her in, Li Guanyue agreed. As Miss Lu's dowry maid, she married into the He household alongside her.
Li Guanyue just wanted to get through that year as quickly as possible. But for some reason, she inexplicably got on He Huai's bad side, and her days were never peaceful.
On their wedding night, He Huai abandoned his new bride and took Guanyue instead, earning her the whole city's scorn as a "vixen";
When she studied the incense recipes her mother had left her, she was punished. When she set them aside and stopped reading, she was punished anyway.
Even when someone praised the sachet she had made for Miss Lu, He Huai found a way to blame her for it.
"You're a dowry maid, a lowly servant, not even a concubine," he said.
Li Guanyue didn't want to cause trouble, so she replied respectfully, "You're right, my lord."
She didn't care about any of that, anyway.
But He Huai seemed even more displeased.
A year later, the Lu family kept its promise and invoked the end of her contract to force Li Guanyue's return from the He household.
Who knew He Huai would go mad with longing, chasing her from his estate to the Lu residence, then from the capital all the way to Jinling?
"I'm just a lowly dowry maid. I don't deserve all this attention from you, my lord. Please go home before you miss dinner." As he pursued her relentlessly, Li Guanyue didn't even look up, focused only on checking the moisture in her incense ingredients.
He Huai knew he had broken her heart.
He knew he was in the wrong. She could hit him or curse him, but what he feared most was her acting as if nothing had happened, not even bothering to look him in the eye.
Reader's guide:
The heroine is carefree. The hero must win back his wife. One-on-one romance.
Blurb for this novel:
While Yao Xingtong was still in her mother's womb, her grandmother had a fortune-teller cast a divination. He said that if the baby wasn't a boy, the Yao family line would end.
To avoid being looked down on, her mother bribed the midwife to raise newborn Yao Xingtong as a boy. She became the family's "eldest grandson."
When she grew up, she and her mother were worrying about how the Yao family could continue its line. Then the commandery governor personally selected her to become a live-in son-in-law.
Rumor had it the governor's only daughter, Gu Luan, stood eight feet tall, and if anyone upset her, she could knock out a whole row of their teeth with one punch.
Yao Xingtong: I'm doomed.
With her whole family watching hopefully, she put on a bright red wedding gown, legs trembling, and entered the governor's residence amid gongs and drums to marry the beautiful young lady, who was even taller than she was.
On their wedding night, she gritted her teeth and climbed into bed, only for the half-drunk Gu Luan to kick her straight back off.
Gu Luan: You're short. Move.
Yao Xingtong: Who knew I'd get this lucky?
The commandery governor was good "friends" with the current emperor. Before the governor's wife was even pregnant, the emperor had issued an edict: if she gave birth to a son, he would be adopted by one of the palace consorts, train in martial arts alongside the crown prince, guard the border, and lay down his life for the country.
Governor: That absolutely cannot happen.
So from the moment Gu Luan was born, her entire family raised her as a girl.
The family spent years on tenterhooks as Gu Luan grew up. When it came time for her to marry, they still couldn't bring themselves to truly "marry" her off.
After looking everywhere, they set their sights on the frailest person in the commandery who could serve as a live-in son-in-law: the Yao family's eldest grandson.
Gu Luan: Even if this guy finds out, I can still punch him flat!
Everyone in the governor's family treated Yao Xingtong well. Everyone except Gu Luan.
Gu Luan seemed to have it in for her. If she didn't exercise, Gu Luan snapped at her. If she didn't eat enough, Gu Luan snapped at her... In short, Gu Luan thought she wasn't manly enough.
Was that why they weren't sharing a room?
Yao Xingtong was relieved, but also fell into deep suspicion: was there something Gu Luan couldn't talk about?
If they didn't have a child soon, people would start saying she was impotent.
Gu Luan, however, just kept saying, "No rush, no rush."
Yao Xingtong began secretly following Gu Luan around.
It wasn't until she peeked at Gu Luan using the toilet that she finally discovered the secret behind their unconsummated marriage.
Help! Her beloved "wife" was actually a man!
With her secret exposed after all these years, Gu Luan rolled up her sleeves, ready to silence her.
But the "husband" trembling beneath her suddenly lifted her skirt, closed her eyes, and called out coyly, "Dear husband."
Gu Luan: Who knew I'd get this lucky?
1. Set in an alternate history with original worldbuilding.
2. A lighthearted, sweet romance.
Content warning:
The heroine is a sweet, ditzy cutie, not a strong female lead. Her greatest virtue is her good temper.
Theme: Freedom in love, equality in marriage
