The Widow Heroine Gets Her Springtime Too

Goal: Challenge myself to write an atmosphere that's suggestive but not lewd, without crossing the line of Jinjiang's rules and, ideally, without having a single chapter locked. On a rainy day when she was seventeen, Chuntao wore a red wedding dress and covered her head with the red veil her mother had left her. She sat on a donkey, dazed, and was married off. On a rainy night when she was eighteen, Chuntao, dressed all in white and carrying a baby who had just turned one month old, fled home to her parents in a panic. An old widow in the village found her a way to make a living: nursing the landowner's baby boy, who had just turned one month old. In the lingering spring rain, Chuntao rode in a donkey cart to work as a wet nurse. A young man from her village told her that the eldest young mistress suffered from a mental illness. After giving birth, she'd yelled that she wanted to strangle the baby, and the fussy child had gone through eight or ten wet nurses already. Chuntao carefully took the baby, thin as a kitten, and unfastened her clothes. In the eldest young mistress's eyes, a glimmer of light slowly appeared... Chuntao hadn't expected that she was only there to work as a wet nurse, yet would end up giving her whole life to the family. Theme: In an unavoidable tragedy, two heroines support and cherish each other
