I Became a Stepmother in a Period Novel

Coming soon: Four-Fifths of the Way There, You're My Dad; Don't Fall in Love with the System [Apocalypse]. Please add them to your favorites!

Ling Yan dies during a zombie siege in the Apocalypse, then gets conned by a System into a period novel.

In the original story, she has a younger brother who's a burden. She marries a paralyzed, retired officer for the sake of household registration and becomes stepmother to two children.

After their father dies, the children are abused by their stepmother and live in misery.

Later, her stepson is sentenced for setting a fire and injuring someone. Her stepdaughter tries to climb the social ladder, but after an accident leaves her disfigured, she jumps into a river and drowns herself.

Meanwhile, Ling Yan's original self is leeched dry by her gambling-addicted younger brother and ends up sick and destitute, dying on the street.

After transmigrating, Ling Yan looks at this family of old, weak, sick, and disabled people, the awful relatives who keep coming to pick fights, and the colleagues who glare at her. The corners of her mouth slowly curl up.

Her younger brother is timid and insecure, so she sends him straight to the army to be toughened up.

Her stepson has a bad temper, so she makes him responsible for all the housework every day. If he doesn't finish, he doesn't eat.

Her stepdaughter is vain and greedy, so she puts her in charge of the household money. She can figure out how to pinch pennies herself.

Her mother-in-law feels sorry for herself, so Ling Yan sends her outside to chat with people. She's not allowed back until she has fresh gossip.

And then, little by little:

Her younger brother in the army starts sending his allowances home to help with expenses.

Her stepson gets better at doing chores and more patient, and stops losing his temper.

Her stepdaughter learns to budget, getting the most out of the least money and using her savings to buy gifts for the family.

Even her mother-in-law grows more cheerful and gets along with all the neighbors.

Ling Yan thinks that even if her husband dies, they'll be able to live peacefully.

She just doesn't understand how the paralyzed man in bed managed to get better.

[Major spoiler: The entire story is set in a fictional world! This is a story about an Apocalypse woman and a cultivation man. They both transmigrate, the golden fingers are enormous, and it's a cozy farming story. If you like it, please add it to your favorites.]

1. Coming soon: Four-Fifths of the Way There, the Male Lead Is My Dad

Fu Ling transmigrates into a period novel as a wealthy, beautiful young woman fallen on hard times in the countryside. Unable to adapt to the poor living conditions and exhausting farm work, she dies of illness after only three months.

After her death, a female educated youth claiming to be her sister shows up.

She inherits all the property left by Fu Ling's deceased parents,

then uses Fu Ling's name to write to her fiance, who is serving in the army, and soon marries him herself.

She lives comfortably for decades on the inheritance, without ever even burning a single stick of incense for Fu Ling.

After Fu Ling wakes up, the first thing she does is make a will,

leaving all her property to the public in case she dies.

Then she writes to her fiance to break off the engagement and demands the return of the antique jade worth a million.

Finally, she packs up and heads straight to the poor family at the end of the village, where they're nearly starving,

and says to the scowling man, "Dad, I'm sorry I'm late."

The scowling man: "You've got the wrong person!"

Fu Ling: "No, I haven't. Your ex-wife remarried and became my stepmother. By a little leap of logic, that makes you my stepfather, so it's only right for me to call you Dad."

The scowling man tries to kick her out,

but his blind, elderly mother shuffles out of the house. "Is that my darling granddaughter? Let Grandma have a look at you."

Fu Ling hurries to her and says, "Grandma, I'm your real granddaughter!"

The whole village is in an uproar.

It turns out Xu Jianguo has a daughter from his ex-wife.

Xu Jianguo dotes on this daughter. Word is, he doesn't let her do the laundry, cooking, or cleaning, and won't even let her go out to the fields to earn work points.

He even announces that he'll find her a strong, kind husband who will cherish her.

Chen Lang is the first to sign up when he hears the news. He even stresses, "We've been friends since childhood, so you have to favor me!"

Favor you? Not a chance. He's not even her real dad!

Fu Ling nods with satisfaction. "All right, it'll be him."

On the day she gets married, Xu Jianguo watches them walk away and silently weeps: At last, I've gotten this jinx out of the house!

2. Coming soon: Don't Fall in Love with the System [Apocalypse]

Just as in his previous life, his friends betray him, shove him into a horde of zombies, and he mutates into the Zombie King.

His only goal is to destroy the world.

That's what he always believes, until one day he hears that familiar female voice coming from the mind of his archenemy.
