This will start once it has enough favorites. In the meantime, check out my ongoing contemporary romance next door, Feeding the Evil Dog with My Own Body.
At sixteen, Shi Yun witnessed an attempted murder on a summer night. A white-T-shirted boy with eyes as black as the night had both hands around the criminal’s neck, slamming him to the ground. He was covered in blood, hatred soaking into the corners of his narrow eyes.
His beauty was so striking it was almost terrifying. When she went forward with her father, the police chief, to stop him, she learned that a rich young man from S City had killed someone while driving drunk. The boy, the only one left in his family, was at the end of his rope and wanted to take the killer down with him.
As they pulled him away, rain soaked his bloodstained chin. The boy brushed past Shi Yun, knocking her shoulder hard. His eyes were full of hatred as he spat, “You filthy lapdog.”
Later, in a deserted alley, one ill-intentioned thug after another fell to the ground. Beneath the streetlight, the white-clad boy stood alone, proud and unbowed, holding an iron bar in his long, pale hand. Then he walked over and looked down at her in silence, his eyes blazing like a fire in broad daylight.
When she reached out in fear and clutched his sleeve, Jiang Zhou lowered his head and slowly curled his fingers around hers. His dark lashes flickered as he gently soothed her. “Don’t be afraid.”
His features were exquisitely beautiful, his gaze intense and burning. A young man’s feelings, plain to see yet impossible to speak aloud.
Enchanted by his beauty, Shi Yun couldn’t help rising onto her tiptoes and leaning toward him. Her kiss brushed the corner of his lips and landed on his chin.
They met again months after they had broken up.
The Jiang family had taken over the rich young man’s company and was riding high.
In the pouring rain, inside the courthouse, he used the recording she had given him to turn the case around.
He personally sent the criminal, who had gone free for a time, to prison.
Shi Yun’s eyes were swollen like walnuts as she stood in the rain and cried. She couldn’t bring herself to believe she was just a fool Jiang Zhou had used.
In the blink of an eye, she was pulled into a car.
The young man who had sat in court in a suit, cold, aloof, and looking down on everyone, now braced one hand beside her ear. His beautiful eyes were stained red.
All his pride bent under the weight of his feelings. In a lowly, broken posture, he knelt on the car seat, leaned over, and kissed her fiercely and frantically.
Outside, rain poured down, but he was a blazing fire, consuming her without end.
Jiang Zhou spent his life stubborn and dark-hearted, once blinded by hatred, seeing everything in the mortal world as a stepping stone beneath his feet. Then Shi Yun entered his eyes.
And all his proud resolve was broken at once.
