(Sanity points are the same as rationality points. In Call of Cthulhu tabletop role-playing rules, losing sanity points affects mental health. If the score reaches zero, the character falls into irreversible madness.)
Blurb:
Shi Yi's sanity score has been negative ever since birth.
Beautiful things look ugly to him, healing things give him a headache, and the world has always seemed insane.
Until he gets dropped into an Infinite Game.
The weirdo boy who got his head knocked off by a heavy truck is suspiciously... enjoying himself?
"A haunted house? I can live there until it collapses. A ghost marriage? I'll stay with the ghost until it comes back to life. Survival? I'm here to enjoy life. It's so warm here. I love it."
Confused ghosts and monsters: Come back to life? Stay with it?
Shocked enemies: Warm? Enjoy?
The teammates who turn the tables: Thrilling. We can just sit back and win.
On the thirtieth day after entering the Infinite Game, the hostile players draw up a list of precautions concerning Shi Yi:
1. Don't let Shi Yi near sharp objects. He likes stealing sharp things and using them to kill you.
2. Don't follow or kidnap Shi Yi alone.
Important! [3. If Shi Yi appears to be near death or seriously injured, verify several times whether he's pretending. If the injury is real, make sure you're armed and keep your weapons ready for combat. Don't believe anything he says.]
4. Shi Yi will kidnap monsters that he can control and make use of. Note: Tentacle monsters seem to greatly whet Shi Yi's appetite (?).
5. Interrogate Shi Yi in shifts, with three to five team members watching from outside the interrogation room. If the interrogators notice that Shi Yi is leading the conversation, or that their mental defenses are weakening and their emotions are becoming hard to control, inflict severe pain on yourselves immediately to break free of the hypnotic state. [If an interrogator is no longer able to move, the team members outside must carry out the above instructions and immediately end the interrogation.]
XXX. Stay focused when you're around Shi Yi. Keep reminding yourself, "I am on high alert around Shi Yi." [Do not, under any circumstances,] let your guard down.
On the nth day after entering the Infinite Game, an indescribable blob of a monster clings to Shi Yi, calling him "Father" every other word.
Teammates: ...This is like treating a thief as your father.
Bystanders who don't know the story: This is absurd, but considering it's Shi Yi, it actually seems a little tame.
Tame?
Shi Yi drags over Jiang Lin, a top player ranked number one in combat ability.
Menacing, dangerous, with an off-the-charts sanity score, he's a lone wolf.
The baffled teammates ask, "Don't you like ugly things?"
The confused monster asks, "Should we call him Mother?"
Shi Yi, delighted: "Jiang Lin has a sanity score of 100 and is skilled with firearms and hand-to-hand combat. He sees supernatural things and immediately wants to exorcise them by force. To me, he's so rational it's annoying. To him, I'm so mentally unstable that I make his hands itch."
"We want to kill each other every day, but, surprisingly..."
"We actually got together."
*
"The world teeters on the edge of collapse, but with our mortal bodies, we ignite the might of a supernova. That energy is enough to shatter every rule and cross the boundaries of time and space, turning the stars and reversing heaven and earth. With our blades drawn, even fate in all its cruelty and the gods in all their indifference cannot stand against us."
"That's why nothing is beyond our power."
A mentally ill shou with negative sanity who is deeply addicted to the darkest dungeons, and whose survival-game addiction requires the game to develop an anti-addiction System for him, paired with a human weapon gong whose sanity has never fallen below 100, except after meeting Shi Yi, and who wants to unload firepower indiscriminately on anything supernatural.
One true pairing.
(Note: The shou's sanity score is the result of the author's modified tabletop role-playing rules!)
