To resolve the lingering problems left by a miscarriage of justice sixty years ago, Xu Huai'an disguises herself as a man and goes to the capital to seek a way forward. She joins Prince Rui's household as an advisor.

During the spring imperial examinations, Xu Huai'an helps Prince Rui recruit talent, but keeps running into Su Yu. He's a promising candidate, worth recruiting.

The first time Su Yu sees Xu Huai'an, she stirs a ripple in his heart. As they spend time together, he wants to become someone who can stand shoulder to shoulder with her.

1. Late at night, the clacking of an abacus comes from a fine guest room. Su Yu gently pushes open the door and sees a little head with tousled hair buried in a pile of account books, working furiously.

He sets down the bowl of red date, lotus seed, and white fungus soup in his hands. "Still not finished?"

"There are three years' worth of books, and the accounts for every month have major issues."

"Why not take a look at my family's accounts?" Seeing that tousled little head, Su Yu pulls off his own hair ribbon and gathers her long hair up with it.

"I helped you rise to such a high position, and all you want is for me to look at your accounts?" Xu Huai'an chides him, genuinely annoyed.

"I only want you to look at me." His pale hand lifts Xu Huai'an's delicate chin. The next moment, he sweeps her into his arms and carries her to the bed.

2. On the top floor of Luowang Tower, Xu Huai'an finds wine bottles strewn everywhere and Su Yu slumped on the floor, utterly dejected. She steps around the bottles and crouches beside him. "What's wrong?"

"Xu Huai'an, once the job is done, you're leaving."

"Of course I'll leave when the job is done."

"You won't miss me at all?"

"No."

That single "no" finally sends Su Yu over the edge. He grabs Xu Huai'an and pins him against the railing of Luowang Tower.

"Su Yanwen, have you gone mad?" Xu Huai'an looks back at the tall building behind her, terrified, and clutches the collar of Su Yu's robe.

"I have gone mad. I like you, Xu Huai'an. I like you. Even if you were a man, I would still like you. How can you not miss me at all? What am I supposed to say?"

His bloodshot eyes make Xu Huai'an tremble, and her mind goes blank. His bony hand lifts her chin, forcing her to look up at the man before her.
