Drowning in Summer

Xia Sang Sang is the little princess of the Xia family. She has three older brothers, making her the youngest, and she grew up utterly spoiled.

The little princess was promised in marriage when she was young. Her betrothed was Fu Yanchen, the eldest son of the Fu family.

At five, Xia Sang Sang loudly declared that she wanted to be the Fu family's bride, and clung to Fu Yanchen so much that everyone thought they were a perfect match.

That all changed when Xia Sang Sang was in high school and got a new deskmate, a poor student who wore faded, washed-out clothes all year round.

His name was Yan Qinghe. He only ever smiled at Xia Sang Sang. Looking at her failing test papers, he said, "Sang Sang, I'll help you study."

Xia Sang Sang treated him even better in return. She kept trying to cheer him up, until she ended up losing herself in the process.

At eighteen, it was time to get engaged. For love, Xia Sang Sang called off the engagement.

For the first time, Fu Yanchen lit a cigarette in front of her. "Sang Sang, that brat's doing this to get back at me."

Xia Sang Sang refused to believe him and confronted Yan Qinghe. The smiling boy's expression was calm. "It's true. You're so easy to fool."

Xia Sang Sang slapped Yan Qinghe and left the country without looking back.

Four years later, Yan Qinghe, now a hugely popular celebrity, appeared on a variety show where he had to call a woman he was interested in. The celebrity, who had never been involved in a dating scandal, heard a "Hello" on the other end and lost his voice. His eyes glistened with tears. "Sang Sang, I want to see you..."

The entire country heard the woman on the phone say, "Sure. When you're dead, I'll come burn incense for you."
