[Gentle, fatherly, incredibly lucky and wealthy caretaker top (Qin Zhi) vs. a seemingly composed, cold-faced, adorable but unlucky young Taoist bottom (Bai Huai)]
Word is that the eldest son of the Qin family is plagued by illness and close to death.
Old Master Qin has consulted famous doctors from home and abroad, but none can help. All they can do is wait for him to die.
The Qin family is powerful and wealthy, and there are plenty of people with plenty to say. Somehow, a rumor starts going around that someone secretly placed a vicious curse on the eldest Qin son, causing him to lose all his luck and fall gravely ill.
When Old Master Qin hears this, he slams the table and denounces superstition one minute, then places appeals for help in newspapers across the country the next.
But fate is unkind, and one con artist after another takes advantage of him.
Just as Old Master Qin loses hope and begins making funeral arrangements, he receives a letter saying there is a way to save his son.
The sender says they won't take a single cent, but they have one condition. Once the eldest Qin son has recovered, the Qin family must adopt the sender's disciple, Bai Huai. They don't need to treat him especially well, as long as they don't let him starve to death.
Even Old Master Qin thinks the sole condition is outrageous.
More outrageous still, before he can agree, a servant tells him that an expert claiming to be able to save his son has arrived and is waiting in the parlor.
Almost without thinking, Old Master Qin turns to the next page of the letter.
There is only one line on the paper: My disciple Bai Huai has arrived at your residence. Feed him until he is full, and he will be able to treat your son. Your son will recover within seven days.
Old Master Qin marvels: I doubt even a dog could be delivered this quickly!

After the Qin family adopts a child who appears out of nowhere, the eldest young master's grave illness improves dramatically. Seven days later, he is well enough to receive visitors.
Some say the Qin family has found a male bride to bring good fortune to their son and prolong his life.
But more people say this isn't about bringing good fortune. They're raising someone to trade lives with him. As the eldest young master's health improves, the person whose life is being traded will grow weaker and eventually die. With the Qin family's influence, making it happen without anyone noticing would be easy.
The rumors grow louder and louder.
But as time passes, people realize that the child supposedly being raised as a sacrifice isn't dead. In fact, the whole Qin family dotes on him until he's fair, plump, and absolutely adorable.
Everyone finally catches on and exclaims: So they really are raising a male bride to bring good fortune!
