Supernatural Case Files (Criminal Investigation)

Phoenix City, known as the “Ghost Capital,” is the most famous historic city in southern Huaguo and a popular tourist destination. Fang Hua has spent ten years as the captain of its “peaceful, wine-and-dine” squad. Then, one day, he finds himself plunged into a string of inexplicable, bizarre cases: “underworld beasts” murdering people, soul-demanding lots, executions modeled on the Eighteen Hells... One horrifying, bloody incident follows another, leaving Fang Hua overwhelmed as he throws himself into the investigation.

Until his superior recommends someone to him.

Fang Hua visits the man's home and leans against the doorframe, blowing out a smoke ring. “I hear you write crime investigation novels?”

Nie Yunfeng asks, “Coming straight from a crime scene?”

“Oh?”

“Judging by the pressure mark left by your hard hat... you haven't washed it in three days, have you?”

Fang Hua narrows his eyes. “You've got a nice face and a sharp eye. Aren't you going to unlock the door and invite me in for tea?”

“No need.” Nie Yunfeng smiles politely. “My cat doesn't like smoke. It likes to keep things clean, and so do I.”
