Shen Fenghe was once the strongest sword cultivator in the world.
With demons running rampant, she severed her emotional ties and abandoned her betrothed in order to cultivate the Heartless Sword.
When her sect nearly faced annihilation and her beloved senior brother died, she remained unmoved.
Once the demons had been eradicated, the people who had praised her began calling her heartless and ungrateful, claiming she had betrayed the Way.
Shen Fenghe neither agreed nor disagreed.
Until one day, she caught a reckless little demon breaking into the back mountain.
The little demon begged for mercy and offered her a storybook, claiming it used to belong to her.
Shen Fenghe thought it was amusing. But when she opened it, she suddenly saw the handwriting of someone from her past on the first page.
On the second page, neatly tucked inside, was the strand of emotion she had discarded long ago.
The little demon explained, “A few years ago, I came across a monster in the Ten Thousand Demons Cavern. It saved me and told me to give this to you, but not to tell you where it came from...”
“Where?”
“The Ten Thousand Demons Cavern.”
Clutching the strand of emotion, Shen Fenghe felt a dull ache in her heart. Through the haze, she remembered a tall, graceful figure with a clear, gentle presence.
Back then, demonic energy had swallowed an entire village. She clutched her grandmother's corpse and held tightly to her short sword.
The man had just lifted the tattered straw mat, and the snow-bright light instantly revealed his warm, gentle features.
Their eyes met. He traded his beloved sword for the stiff body in her arms, then gently wiped the dirty blood from her cheek.
“Don't be afraid. I'm from Qingyang Sect. Come back to the sect with me and be my junior sister.”
Several people poked their heads out from behind him.
“Our senior brother is right! From now on, we'll fight evil together and make sure those demons never dare wreak havoc again.”
That was where the story began.
But the ending was that the person who carried her out of the demon cavern never came back. None of the people who had fought demons alongside her came back, either.
All that remained was a book of unknown origin, with a few cold, final lines.
“Senior Brother Ling Henyu sacrificed himself to seal the formation. Junior Sister died in battle at Qingxin Valley...”
“Only the sword-obsessed Second Senior Sister remained. She went mad during cultivation and died by the roadside.”
From that day on, Qingyang Sect lost a Second Senior Sister, and the martial world gained a deranged talisman master who claimed she would reopen the Demon Gate.
Everyone was out to kill her.
Clutching the strand of emotion, she ventured into the demonic realm and retraced the path they had once walked together.
Fortunately, at an inn on the edge of the wilderness, she finally caught the “monster” that had been following her all along.
The monster turned and ran.
It struggled so hard that Shen Fenghe easily tore off its withered, brittle arm.
The monster had no choice but to turn back and take its arm.
But Shen Fenghe held on to it and smiled calmly. “Senior Brother, let's write a new ending.”
“When I was little, you used to soothe me to sleep by making up endings I liked.”
“Now it's my turn to make one up for you.”
