My Golden Finger Turned Me Over to the State

Ji Ting never imagined his ordinary life would take such a sudden, dramatic turn. He’d become a civil servant just like that. The commotion when they came to arrest him... no, invite him, had been downright absurd. Escorted by several cars, Ji Ting carefully looked back over the first half of his short life and concluded that whatever he might have done, it couldn’t possibly warrant this kind of arrest. “What exactly did I do?” “Your novel merged with reality.” “Huh?” Ji Ting froze, wondering if they had the wrong person. “My novel?” The stuff he wrote wasn’t even good enough to post on X Point, let alone qualify for a paid subscription on X Jiang. And now it was being called a novel? “Come clean. How many books have you written?” “Wait, I didn’t even know my novels had come true. How did you find out?” “The protagonist of one of your novels contacted us and told us all about you.” “Now, tell us what you’ve been up to.” * Coming soon: Interstellar Superstar An Yuan transmigrated. He stood onstage, surrounded by lights. Behind him sat rows of contestants who were all “people.” In front of him were three judges, and he was the only one on the stage floating in midair. One judge was an octopus covered in tentacles, another was a huge tree rooted in the void, and the last was just one enormous eyeball. The contestants looked even stranger. Mermaids, angels, succubi, beastfolk, and humans were all more or less recognizable humanoids, while the nonhumans grew more and more bizarre. The giant eyeball called to An Yuan from below the stage. Its incomprehensible babble seamlessly switched into familiar Mandarin. “Tell us your dream.” An Yuan answered with complete sincerity. “I want to go home.” A mouth sprouted from the tree as it introduced this contestant from the rare purebred human race to the audience. “An Yuan is a purebred human. (Sobbing) He still longs to return to the embrace of Mother Earth. (Sobbing) How moving. I’m giving you an S card! Such a grand dream deserves our support!” Water poured out of the octopus, flooding the floor. “I’m giving you an S card too! That’s so touching.” The giant eyeball raised its voice. “Congratulations to An Yuan, the first contestant to receive three S cards, making him the highest-ranked contestant so far!” An Yuan: There’s a swear word I’d like to say, but I don’t know if I should. Premise: I contribute to my country.
