Coming Soon: The Farmer's Daughter (Matriarchal Society)
The bandits of Yaofeng Stronghold are a bunch of troublemakers raised in a harsh land.
Their leader is a man, clad in beast hide and gripping a narrow-backed saber. He spends all day shouting threats and making a racket, with one phrase always on his lips: "Yaofeng Stronghold has no place for idle folk!"
He eats meat, drinks blood, and guzzles wine. He has chopped his long hair into a messy crop and has no manly bearing at all. Everyone says he'll die alone.
Then one day, the bandit chief brings a frail woman back from the foot of the mountain. She can't lift a hand or carry a thing, like an invalid.
Later, they see the bandit chief, once notorious for robbing and pillaging, suddenly dressed in a clean, neat short jacket, silently picking wildflowers from all eighteen li of the village road.
He gives every last flower to the "idle woman," then quickly clasps his hands behind his back, fidgeting. He looks as droopy as a puppy caught in the rain. "Xu Zhi, I want to marry you. Would you be willing to take me as your wife...?"
On the first day Xu Zhi transmigrated, the tendons and meridians in her wrists were severed, and she was left with only one breath.
The former leader of the martial world had ended up abandoned in the wilderness.
In the faint morning sunlight, she saw a short-haired youth. His handsome face broke into a radiant smile, revealing a little canine tooth. "Hey, are you still alive?"
#She learned his saber only so he could draw it for her#
A few reading notes:
A martial-arts story in a matriarchal society. Updates aren't daily, just whenever inspiration strikes. It's short, and I won't provide content warnings, so please steer clear if you need them. No need to tell me if you drop it.
Coming Soon: The Farmer's Daughter
Zhou You is the most doted-on prince in Great Zhou. Even the current crown princess gives way to him, and in front of his royal mother he acts without restraint, believing no one under heaven is worthy of him.
Who could have guessed that one summer, while he and his elder sister, the crown princess, were traveling incognito, assassins would attack them, only for bandits to capture them as they fled?
Alas, he is so young, yet his brilliance is about to be buried.
But when the bandits accidentally trespass onto a farmer's land, he wakes to find the farmer claiming she drove them off.
Ha, what a boast.
Aside from being pretty, having a one-of-a-kind air about her, and being gentle, the farmer is utterly useless. Her family is so poor they can barely scrape by.
"I'm telling you, don't think you can use saving my life to marry into my family. I'd rather bash my head in and die!"
She looks at him in confusion. "Oh."
After spending time together, he realizes the farmer isn't completely useless. At the very least, her cooking is the finest in the world, her fruits are rare beyond compare, and even her fish seem to understand people.
Well, she's healthy, capable, good-tempered, and clever. He could probably be persuaded to find her some kind of official post.
Later, he takes her back to the capital, fidgeting and claiming he is doing so very "reluctantly." He steels himself to take her to "meet the family."
"My family is incredibly rich, richer than you can imagine, and powerful. Don't be nervous. Just do as I say."
"All right."
"There are lots of people in my family, and lots of rules. Put up with it for a few days while I work things out. We'll be able to move out eventually."
"All right."
"I have a great-grandmother who once cultivated immortality. She's over a hundred, lives forever, holds power over everything, and looks down on everyone. If she gives you a hard time, don't feel wronged. I'll risk all my dignity to plead your case. If she sends someone to kill you, I'll elope with you!"
"All right."
Zhou You tosses and turns all night, unable to sleep. At last, the day arrives for the farmer to meet the emperor.
In the Golden Hall, she walks at an unhurried pace and stands casually.
Everyone says that a mere farmer must be so frightened she can barely walk or even figure out where to stand. They laugh at her for overestimating herself, thinking she could marry the prince.
Suddenly, the retired empress, who has never even deigned to glance at anyone in the hall, shakily rises to her feet and cries, "Senior Sister?"
Zhou You: ?????
