The Regent Is Thirty and Unmarried

※

Song Baolu has drifted into the capital with nowhere left to turn. Gritting her teeth, she sells herself into service as a maid in the Prince Regent's residence, where she looks after the young heir, who has just turned one. The work is light, the pay is good, and the pressure is low.

There's just one drawback: every day, she has to meet with the Prince Regent, Xiang Ze, and report on the child's progress.

Xiang Ze is a man of lofty status, admired and praised by the people for diligently assisting the young emperor for many years. But he's nearly thirty, unmarried and without children, and he's known for being gloomy, violent, and stern. No one dares get close to him.

Every day, Song Baolu, a delicate young woman, has to face his soul-searching questions: "What did the young heir eat today? What did he play? What did he learn?"

Endure it, Song Baolu can only endure it, until she's saved up a hundred taels of silver and can run away.

Day after day, the young heir slowly grows up. Song Baolu has saved enough money and is ready to leave the prince's residence.

Xiang Ze stops her and fires off three questions in a row: "Where are you going? Will you take me with you? Do you... do you love me or not?"

Ever since Song Baolu, the maid who looks after his nephew, came to the residence, Xiang Ze's life has changed without him even realizing it. Laughter and joy have begun to fill the prince's residence, once as still as a pool of water.

Xiang Ze, Song Baolu, and the young heir together look just like a happy family of three.

The servants of the prince's residence: The prince is thirty and still unmarried. At long last, he's going to "marry himself off."

Unexpectedly, when the emperor arranges his marriage to a distinguished young lady, Xiang Ze flatly refuses.

That night, Xiang Ze stands outside Song Baolu's room for half the night. "Baolu, in this life, I will marry no one but you."
