I came across a target to win over.
He was cruel and ruthless, a walking pool of darkness. The first time I saw him, I took a bullet for him and died once.
But that wasn't a problem. I had resurrection points, so it didn't matter how many times I died, as long as I could get the happy ending.
The darkness incarnate was every bit as dark as expected. I died for him again and again, yet he never changed his expression or showed the slightest sign of being moved. I almost gave up on the game.
But when I respawned for the 99th time and prepared to protect his destined best friend by taking us both down, the darkness incarnate suddenly acted out of character and grabbed me.
His hand was trembling. His pale face wore a pitiful, almost pleading expression, as if he were saying, "Don't go."
He really was adorable like this, but I brushed his hand away without hesitation. I knew he'd be heartbroken if his best friend died, and I just couldn't stand seeing a handsome boy in pain.
This was the hundredth time I'd died, but this time, I didn't seem to come back to life.

[I know Player won't die, because Player has save-scumming and respawn points.]
[So the moment I saw him, I decided I would die for him.]
