One of the Detective Trilogy.
As the title suggests, this started as a wild idea. Then one day I expanded on it a little, and it became a beautiful love story that even I can't stop shipping.
Set in America in the 1980s or 1990s? This is my own fantastical world, where the Church and the Demon Realm coexist, and exorcists and detectives work side by side.
The demon in the title really is a demon from the magical side of things, and a demon lord with a castle in the Demon Realm, no less.
Of course, I have always liked tucking a romance subplot into a story with a grand setting and a main plot, so in the strictest sense, this is an inconspicuous side story in a traditional demon-slaying tale. But the demon-slaying plot only ever wanders around in my head, and I don't even know if I'll write it.
Pure romance. The female lead is a demon lord, and the male lead is a human detective. The point of view shifts between them, though most of the time it's on the male lead.
I should also mention the source of inspiration: Hide and Seek by Lizz Robinett.
Later on, I'll add the game of hide-and-seek the female and male leads played when they first met in the human world.
The story begins five years after the detective male lead was abducted to the Demon Realm by the demon female lead and they settled into married life, when she suddenly loses her memory. Also known as The Divorcing Medley of an Old Married Couple.
Female lead: formerly a domineering, willful little demon, now an amnesiac, willful little cutie.
Male lead: sensitive and prone to overthinking, formerly a student at a Church school, then a human detective, and now a self-taught exorcist.
The leads have a son, but he has very little screen time so far. The narration mainly uses the third-person pronouns "he" and "she." I hope you lovely readers can get used to this way of narrating without using names.
Theme: Exploring the rich variety of emotional bonds between different races
