Reborn as a Cannon Fodder Who Dies in a Palace Intrigue Novel

Gu Sui transmigrates into a palace-intrigue novel. On the surface, she's a successful consort; in reality, she's an unlucky cannon-fodder character.

Emperor Yunhe, Shen Changze, suffers from a violent temper and casually beats servants to death. Even high-ranking consorts are not spared if they anger him. Only the heroine, Bai Qingqing, has a natural, unique fragrance that can soothe his mind. Gu Sui thinks: I'll die sooner or later. Better to free myself than let someone else control me. Who cares about the Emperor of Heaven? If the King of Hell says you're going to die at the third watch, how could you possibly live until the fifth?

And so Gu Sui embarks on a path of provoking the Emperor...

[1] A eunuch in the Imperial Kitchens delivers the wrong dish. The Emperor flies into a rage. "Cut off one of his fingers!"

Gu Sui casually tosses out, "Why bother? Just turn him into a human swine."

Emperor: No, that's too cruel.

Gu Sui: ...Wasn't he supposed to be a tyrant?

[2] Bai Qingqing accuses Gu Sui of slapping her. The Emperor flies into a rage and summons Gu Sui for questioning.

Gu Sui says, "A slap is nothing. I even made her kneel until dawn!"

An investigation later reveals that the Bai family had seized farmland and caused deaths. The Noble Consort summoned her to punish her in order to protect the royal family's reputation and keep the matter from getting out.

Gu Sui: ...She had no idea any of that happened!

[3] One day, Gu Sui finally succeeds in angering the Emperor. Before he can punish her, she grabs a pair of scissors and cuts off her hair, ready to wail, make a scene, and threaten to hang herself. If she has to die, she'll die spectacularly.

Emperor: Stop! Put down the scissors. I won't punish you, all right?

Gu Sui: ...Don't go soft on me! I'm dying to die!

Noble Consort Gu grows more and more domineering, yet Emperor Yunhe's reputation keeps improving. Even his violent temper seems to have disappeared without treatment. Outsiders say the Emperor is so sentimental and loyal to his old love. Even after all this, he still won't leave her. This must be true love!

Emperor Yunhe: No, this isn't true love. Seeing the Noble Consort make such a scene makes me feel like a normal person, so I'll let her live.

Gu Sui: ...Kill me! Just kill me!

Emperor Yunhe: Be good. Don't fuss.

Gu Sui: QAQ I can't live like this!

A lighthearted, ridiculous comedy.

Theme: Fear no authority, fight back bravely, and pursue freedom.
