My Three Boyfriends

Qi Min had three boyfriends.

He truly loved the first one. The man died when Qi Min loved him most.

With the second, Qi Min made a foolish mistake and treated him as a substitute. As it happened, the other man treated him as a substitute too, so they were even. But during that time, Qi Min hadn't felt like himself, so he decided to end things. It was a hassle, though, because the other man had taken it seriously and wouldn't stop clinging to him.

The third one was someone he settled for.

After seven years of marriage, he was bored, so they divorced.

Remembering the pleading tone in the man's voice as he begged Qi Min not to divorce him, Qi Min felt not the slightest stir in his heart.

He did like the man, but after seven years, that fondness had grown steadily fainter.

Had the man treated him well?

Very well. When Qi Min couldn't eat, he learned to cook all sorts of dishes for him. When Qi Min casually said he wanted to see the northern lights, a private jet was arranged the very next day. When he got drunk and pointed at the stars, saying he wanted to buy an island just to watch them, the development rights to an island were in his hands in less than six months...

Still, he couldn't find the desire to wake up and open his eyes each day. Sometimes he could sleep for a very long time, and that actually put him at ease.

His therapist said he was ill and needed treatment. Yes, he needed help, and he needed someone to accompany him.

But he didn't want anyone else. He only wanted Lu Yan with him.

So he went to find Lu Yan.

"I died at thirty-three."

After saying this, Qi Min slowly closed his eyes. In that final moment, he seemed to really see Lu Yan beckoning to him.
