The story begins

Wen Shuxian discovers a bottomless pit in her bedroom, where a monster that eats nothing but meat lives.

As time passes, the monster looks more and more familiar. It seems to be her lover, who has already died.

Luo Qianzhou enjoys their world of two, just her and Wen Shuxian. But later, that world collapses.

Everything returns to the starting point.

If every story begins with a meeting and ends with a parting,

what if this time she chooses not to meet her?

A nameless park by Wen Shuxian’s home is suddenly filled with fish tanks. They’re coated in moss, and goldfish can just barely be seen swimming inside.

Wen Shuxian meets a girl carrying a bag of dead fish.

“Because my mom and dad wouldn’t buy me a fish tank, the fish suffocated to death,” the girl says.

Later, the girl dyes her hair blue and lives as freely as a fish, yet when she grows old, she finds she can’t escape the fish tank no matter what she does.

So she begs Wen Shuxian for help in her misery.

But Wen Shuxian has forgotten that when a fish tank is smashed, the goldfish will eventually die of oxygen deprivation.

[Swimming Pool]

At the swimming pool where Wen Shuxian works, there is a mermaid who loves raw meat and only comes out at night.

The mermaid often flicks her tail and tells Wen Shuxian stories about her life in the sea.

But soon, people discover the mermaid at the pool, and they all scramble to claim her.

They argue, fight, and finally drain all the water from the pool.

The mermaid never returns to the sea where she belongs. Instead, she dries up at the bottom of the pool.

[School]

Scenes from the high school she attended reappear in her memory, blurred but familiar. The knowledge she once learned still lingers in Wen Shuxian’s mind.

A transfer student joins her class. The girl’s face is familiar, but seeing her fills Wen Shuxian with pain.

Wen Shuxian can’t bear the pain and runs away, but no matter how far she goes, she can’t escape the school.

High above in the school building, the transfer student watches her and murmurs, “It seems we shouldn’t meet again.”

One day, Wen Shuxian suddenly realizes that the person in her memories is becoming increasingly unclear. At a loss, she seeks help from a psychiatrist.

As she waits to be called at the hospital, the woman beside her places a baby in her arms.

“Her name is Luo Qianzhou. Please make sure you raise her.”

Wen Shuxian finds it absurd, but then the world before her eyes begins to break apart and reassemble.

In the blink of an eye, she is in the desert, holding a camel’s reins in her left hand and a baby in her right.

Millennia of memories flood her mind.

The voice of a blurred figure before her drifts to her ears on the wind.

“It’s all right. We’ll meet again.”
