I'm a cosplayer and fanfiction writer who loves Ranpo.
They say if you love someone, you should play their archenemy, so I cosplayed as Edgar Allan Poe.
But I never imagined I'd be swept up in the transmigration craze and transmigrate to Yokohama.
Facing my idol, the first thing I said was,
"Allow me to defeat you and become the world's greatest detective!"
Oh no. I'm done for.
How am I supposed to defeat the great Ranpo? With my head full of all those unmentionable fanfic ideas about Soukoku, Atsushi and Akutagawa, and so on?
Well... maybe that could work after all.

There are stories within the story. The fanfiction in them is terrible, and the characters are extremely out of character.
Edgar Allan Poe is himself. Due to his amnesia and exposure to the modern world, his personality changes in the early part of the story. The modern world is a false reality created by a book.
The archenemies mentioned in the blurb are rivals who are evenly matched in deduction.

Pleased with himself after gaining lots of underlings, Kikuchi Hoshino proudly turned to the next page.
Rule Two of the Manual for Conquering the World: Don't be a picky eater.
He clenched his chubby little fist, squeezed his eyes shut, and ate the tofu monster he hated.
"What do you think?! I'm not scared of you, monster!"
And so Kikuchi Hoshino set off on the path of finding "older brothers" and defeating monsters. Much later, he sat at a Yokohama pier, looked at the sea with a crowd of underlings behind him, and sighed deeply.
"Sigh... When will I finally conquer the world?"
Underling No. 1, Dazai Osamu: It's time to make him eat more tofu.
Underling No. 2, Nakahara Chuuya, grabbed him by the back of his collar and told him to get to school on time.
Underling No. 3, Saiki Kusuo: ...?
Underlings No. 4 and 5: Tiny heads, big questions.
In Kikuchi Hoshino's eyes, underling No. 1 is a sickly man who needs looking after; underling No. 2 has too much of a conscience, and conquering the world is a pretty heartless business; underlings No. 3, 4, and 5 are all ordinary people who need their big brother to protect them.
