As a Chinese person, You Jia suddenly receives an interview invitation from Japan on his phone. "This has to be fake." He says it and gets ready to tap the close button, but his finger slips and opens it instead. His vision blurs, and he finds himself standing outside a small courtyard with a distinctly Japanese style. A fox with markings painted on its face says to him, "Saniwa from a neighboring country, welcome to the Government's workforce!"
"The fox is talking! Aaaaaah!"
So it had all been real, You Jia thinks as he sits at his desk reviewing documents. Since he's here, he might as well settle in. Now that he's started the job, he should work hard and aim for a promotion! He starts doing more and saying less, hoping to become a supervisor in one year and a manager in five. But he never expected Japanese workplace culture to be completely different from back home. Promotions depend entirely on seniority, and even his enthusiasm is ground down. You Jia throws his pen on the floor. "Damn it!"
So he changes his strategy: talk more, work hard, and cozy up to the people in charge. The change works wonders. In less than five years, he has a seat in the Government's headquarters. He brews a pot of green tea on his rosewood desk and breathes in its delicate fragrance. You Jia sighs, "Now this is how a normal promotion should work."
