Lin Zhenwen transmigrated into a novel called The Road to Success Begins in the Countryside, becoming the male lead's cousin, who shared his name.

In the book, the male lead, Lin Zhenxing, was a scholar whom the entire clan had invested in raising. To send him to school, the eldest branch had to make do with water to stave off hunger; to buy him a book, they had to live on bran and vegetables. When he passed the provincial examination and the family could finally breathe easy, the eldest branch was cast out.

After that, Lin Zhenxing passed the metropolitan examination, entered the Hanlin Academy, and led the whole clan to a better life, but none of it had anything to do with the eldest branch.
