I love this idea so much that I'm bumping it up to write next w
1. Ning Yelan always thought he was just an ordinary wage slave, until one day a voice suddenly rang out in his mind: Damn, how am I supposed to write the opening of this novel?!
Ning Yelan: ? Who's the opening? Why does someone have to write an opening?
Only then did he learn that the world he'd thought was perfectly ordinary was actually a novel written by an author in a higher dimension.
So far, the novel had only an outline and a one-line premise: Ning Yelan was the protagonist, burdened with the mission of saving humanity.
Ning Yelan: Huh? Me?
Ning Yelan: Then your novel can forget about getting published.
2. The author tells Ning Yelan that his supernatural ability lets him collect monsters from classic urban legends and Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, including nine-tailed foxes, spirit-writing games, slit-mouthed women, Bloody Mary, and more.
Ning Yelan is intrigued, so he follows the author's outline and goes around collecting them one by one.
Then things take a turn:
Ning Yelan: Spirit of the pen, spirit of the pen, tell me when I'll get rich.
Spirit of the pen (spinning around on the paper): After you die.
Ning Yelan: Can you make it a little sooner?
The spirit of the pen writes: Sure. I'll kill you right now.
Ning Yelan: Sadako, Sadako, do me a favor.
Sadako (crawling out of the TV): Who do you want to scare? Your boss?
Ning Yelan: No, no. Help me figure out what's wrong with the router. Yes, it's right next to your hair.
Ning Yelan: Mary, Mary, Mary.
Bloody Mary (appearing in the mirror, face covered in blood): What?
Ning Yelan: How does my new hairstyle look? Do you think I can win over the prettiest girl in school?
Bloody Mary: You look like the male lead of a novel.
Ning Yelan: I'm satisfied.
Bloody Mary: The novel I'm reading is danmei.
3. With the author egging him on in his head, Ning Yelan works hard to build up his forces and prepare for the coming battle to defend human civilization.
At last, the day of the decisive battle arrives as promised.
Ning Yelan summons all the monsters, ready for battle.
But to his horror, he discovers that the main villain is none other than the boss he sees every day at work!
Ning Yelan often sends ghosts to scare him, though this bizarre boss isn't afraid. Instead, he refills the spirit pen's ink, styles Sadako's hair, and buys Bloody Mary designer dresses.
The author, directing him: The big boss is allergic to your saliva. Quick, give him a kiss!
The author, excited: Yes! Then turn around and walk away. Play hard to get!
The more Ning Yelan follows the author's instructions, the more wrong it all feels.
The author: Huh? Didn't I tell you I was writing danmei?
The author (blushing): Oh, I hadn't fully decided back then, okay? You know how it is. An outline is just an outline. Anything can change before the story begins.
Ning Yelan: ???
Bloody Mary elegantly paints her nails. “I told you ages ago.”
