Love Them and Leave Them

Xu Yue is outgoing and flamboyant, but has an innocent-looking face. In her father's eyes, she's a good girl. Her doting father, worried she might get bullied, found her a tall, imposing husband with a perpetually blank expression. Xu Yue doesn't know if he can protect her, but whenever she gets a little out of hand, he steps in front of her, and she just... wilts! Whether praying to the gods or returning to her hometown to pay respects to her ancestors, Xu Yue has only one wish: for Lu Jiahe to get as far away as possible. Then one day, Xu Yue wakes up and discovers she's been reborn seven years in the past. She decides to find Lu Jiahe and tell him to stay away, and not join the Xu family company. When she gets to his home, she sees Lu Jiahe working several part-time jobs from dawn till dusk. He missed campus recruitment after graduation because he had to care for his sick mother and keep his younger sister in high school. Xu Yue doesn't say what she came to say. Instead, she gives him money so he can get his mother treated. Once his mother's condition improves, Xu Yue talks Lu Jiahe into starting a business: "It's better to be your own boss than work for someone else, right?" His gaze turns deep. "I'll do whatever you say." As Lu Jiahe builds his business, he comes to see Xu Yue whenever something comes up. Determined to see things through once she's started helping him, she invests in his company, finds him resources, and listens to him talk about the hardships and joys of starting a business. A few years later, Lu Jiahe's company is preparing to go public in the US. He invites her to ring the opening bell with him at the stock exchange. Looking at Lu Jiahe, brimming with confidence, Xu Yue feels the danger has finally passed, yet she's also filled with a sense of loss. She tells herself she should be happy, shouldn't she? So she has a few extra drinks. Xu Yue wakes up, and the memories come flooding back. Last night, drunk, she was taken to her room by Lu Jiahe. She poked him in the chest and demanded to know why he looked down on her. He denied it. Then she went and... Xu Yue doesn't dare look back. She just wants to sneak away, but as soon as her feet touch the floor, a clear, mellow voice comes from behind her: "Are you trying to have your fun and then abandon me?"
