The Sparrow

That afternoon in PE class, Lin Shan Que sat on the steps outside the basketball court with a few girls from her class. While the others whispered excitedly about how handsome one of the older boys on the court was, she kept her eyes fixed on the girl sitting lazily on the steps across from them.

That was Ye Qingxiao, a year above her. Lin Shan Que had heard her name even before she started school.

Beautiful, defiant, carefree... Even the teachers brought her up when they were lecturing the students: "If you had a family like Ye Qingxiao's, I wouldn't care what you did for fun."

She and Lin Shan Que belonged to completely different worlds.

But Lin Shan Que had a secret. That summer after the high school entrance exams, she spent two hundred yuan on a secondhand phone, downloaded a game, and met someone there.

That person said her name was Ye Qingxiao.

Lin Shan Que fell for her.

Ye Qingxiao was very fond of a little sparrow.

The little sparrow was a bit silly, always bringing her tasty treats. It would even wait for her at the places she frequented late at night, and openly confessed that it liked her.

But later, the little sparrow flew away, and Ye Qingxiao didn't even know what it looked like.

Ye Qingxiao searched everywhere for it, but in the end, all she found was a portrait. It was a picture of herself, signed "Sparrow."

One day, years later, Ye Qingxiao walked into a convenience store by the road. As she paid, she glanced at the young woman behind the counter, who was crying.

Perhaps Ye Qingxiao's gaze was too direct. The young woman pointed at a phone propped up nearby. It was playing a hit drama: the two leads passed each other, and only one of them looked back, crying uncontrollably as she watched the other walk away without a glance.

"The person she loves doesn't even know she exists. This is so heartbreaking, sob..."

Ye Qingxiao's heart tightened. She parted her lips, but no words came out.

She was carrying her purchases out the door when someone approached her, holding a painting. On it were two familiar characters.

"This painting... where did you get it?" Ye Qingxiao's voice was strained as she stared fixedly at the person holding it.

But the person's gaze fell on someone behind her. "Sparrow helped paint it. It's nice, isn't it?"

Years later, Ye Qingxiao finally found the little sparrow she loved.

/// They won't get together until they reunite years later!

--- Coming soon: Doctor Song, My Tooth Hurts ---

Lin Manyue was prone to cavities, and not long after moving to a new home, she visited the private dental clinic nearby.

After taking an X-ray, the masked dentist looked up at her. Her voice was cool and clear. "Is this tooth hurting a lot?"

"I don't think it hurts anymore..." Lin Manyue held her cheek. "It kept me up last night. I don't know why it stopped hurting as soon as I saw you."

That morning, Lin Manyue was crouching outside the hospital, feeding a cat. She gently scratched the little ginger cat's head with her index finger and told it, "Meow meow, you should eat more~"

A hand came to rest on her head, and a low, pleasant voice spoke from behind her. "Lin Manyue, you should eat more too."

Lin Manyue turned around and saw the morning sunlight falling across Song Shu's eyes and brows, softening the hint of coolness she usually carried.
