I'll Raise You as My Shadow Guard

Shi Guo has long since lost track of how long she's been alive. Back when she worked as a shadow guard, her codename was Thirteen. One day, she gets a mission to eavesdrop through a wall.

She's all too familiar with this job. She's done it dozens of times, if not a hundred, and after so much practice, she can even sneak a few pastries and fruits to feed the little tyke next door.

After feeding the little tyke for a while, she simply takes the child home and raises them herself.

The little tyke tucked in her arms is so thin, like a kitten on the verge of dying.

Passing the shrine at the richest man's estate, Shi Guo spots some milk. Oh, score. She'll take it back to feed the kitten at home.

A kitten needs a comfortable nest. She remembers that a child she once saved on a whim, who knows how many years ago, built her a grand mansion after growing up. It'll be just right for the kitten.

Shi Guo has never raised a child, but she once raised a cat when she was young.

Cats are clever. Give them enough food to fill their bellies and a nest to shelter them from the wind and rain, and they can live quite well.

But when Shi Guo raises a cat, naturally, everything must be the best.

Lychees and silverfish tribute from the imperial merchants, sable furs and silks, rare birds and beasts, fine jade and agate... If other people have it, her kitten must have it too.

Shi Guo diligently brings home fine things from outside to raise her cat. She keeps at it, and when she turns around, her kitten has grown up.

The kitten has blossomed into a graceful beauty, with cheeks fairer than snow, attracting countless covetous eyes.

Shi Guo: You think after all these years as a shadow guard, all I know how to do is crouch by walls?!

But among those covetous gazes is one from within the imperial city, belonging to someone who represents supreme power.

Shi Guo thinks for a moment, then casually strokes her cat's silky hair. "What do you think of me becoming emperor?"

The imperial merchant who is also the richest man, the emperor's lone loyalist, and the female general disguised as a man, who have finally caught up behind her: "You should've said so sooner! We've been waiting for you to say that!"

A long-lived, immortal shadow guard who has worn countless secret identities x a true-born heiress raised in the lap of luxury
