"The Sleepless Harbor"
When Pei Du was seventeen, Xu Liuzheng was asked to take care of him for a year.
Don't go bad.
That was the only thing Xu Liuzheng asked of him.
Pei Du was stubborn to the bone. He couldn't learn to lower his head and never took her words to heart.
He still gathered his friends around him, raced along deserted roads in the middle of the night, and changed the girl on the back of his motorcycle every day.
Everyone watched him coldly, treating him like mud and waiting for him to be cast aside.
Even he was waiting for the woman's patience to run out.
Later, every time he fell, she crossed the muck and pulled him back up, again and again, never growing tired of it.
From then on, Pei Du developed the despicable desire to draw the moon into his arms.
At the end of his seventeenth year, he stunned everyone.
The aloof Pei Du actually put on his school uniform and traded his motorcycle for a bicycle. He went from a regular at the bar to someone who always sat in the front row of class, becoming a good student just as she wanted.
The night after the college entrance exams was his eighteenth birthday.
In a rare moment of indulgence, he kissed her while drunk.
The next day, she cut off all contact with him unilaterally.
He went from a dog raised at home to a stray abandoned by the roadside.
-
Years later, they met again on a film project.
Xu Liuzheng came as agreed to sign a contract.
Just as expected, someone stole the role from her.
After all, she had a terrible reputation in the industry and no connections. Anyone could step on her.
As she was leaving, someone called her back and offered her a contract with excellent terms.
They said the investor had specifically chosen her.
Xu Liuzheng's hand tightened around the contract.
The man had an unfathomable background. Others were wary of even mentioning him. Why would he help her?
When she learned he was at a drinking party, she went to thank him.
The investor sat in the shadows, his gaze drifting lightly over her.
His long, slender fingers held a cigarette. His tone was flirtatious and cold. "Is saying thank you all you're going to do?"
Xu Liuzheng stood there, watching him joke intimately with his girlfriend. Through the smoke he exhaled, his occasional glances at her were utterly indifferent.
She held back as long as she could, then strode forward and snatched away his cigarette. "Don't you want your lungs anymore?"
The room fell silent.
Pei Du froze for a moment. His eyes shifted like a storm was brewing, as though he were suppressing some emotion, before finally settling into cold mockery. "What gives you the right to control me?"
Xu Liuzheng's dark lashes trembled slightly as she lowered her eyes.
-
Pei Du was waiting.
Waiting for Xu Liuzheng to regret abandoning him.
But then he heard she was raising someone new.
-
In an old apartment building, the lights were dim.
Xu Liuzheng came home from work.
In the darkness, there was a click, and a feeble flame sprang to life.
She turned back in confusion, only to be pulled into a cold embrace.
The newcomer pressed close to her ear. His voice was eerie and distant, with a hint of gritted teeth.
"Taking care of him? Is he as obedient as I am?"
