When Pei Du was seventeen, Xu Liuzheng was asked to take care of him for a year.
Don't go bad.
That was the only thing Xu Liuzheng ever asked of him.
Pei Du was stubborn and never learned to bow his head. He never took her words to heart.
He still gathered his friends around him, raced along deserted highways in the middle of the night, and changed the girl riding on the back of his motorcycle every day.
Everyone watched coldly, convinced he was a worthless mess and waiting for him to be thrown away.
Even he expected the woman's patience to run out.
Later, each time he fell, she would wade through the mud and pull him back up, again and again, without complaint.
From then on, Pei Du harbored the despicable desire to take the moon into his arms.
At the end of his seventeenth year, he left everyone dumbfounded.
Proud and aloof Pei Du actually put on his school uniform, traded his motorcycle for a bicycle, and went from a regular at the bars to sitting in the front row of class every day, becoming the good student she wanted him to be.
The night after the college entrance exams was his eighteenth birthday.
For once, he let himself go. In his drunken haze, he kissed her.
The next day, she unilaterally cut off all contact.
He went from a dog kept at home to a stray abandoned on the roadside.
-
Years later, they met again on a film project.
Xu Liuzheng came as agreed to sign a contract.
As expected, the role was snatched away from her.
After all, she had a terrible reputation in the industry and no connections. Anyone could take a shot at her.
As she was leaving, someone called her back and offered her a contract with excellent terms.
They said the investor had personally selected her.
Xu Liuzheng's grip tightened on the contract.
The man came from an unfathomably powerful background. People spoke of him with great caution. Why would he help her?
When she learned he was at a business dinner, she went to thank him.
The investor sat in the shadows, his gaze drifting over her.
His long fingers held a cigarette, and his voice was casual and cold. "Is that all you're here to do, thank me?"
Xu Liuzheng stood where she was, watching him flirt intimately with his girlfriend. Through the drifting smoke, his occasional glances at her were utterly calm.
She held back as long as she could, then strode over and snatched away his cigarette. "Don't you want to keep your lungs?"
The room fell silent.
Pei Du paused. His eyes shifted like a storm was brewing, as if he were suppressing some emotion, before finally settling into cold mockery. "What gives you the right to control me?"
Xu Liuzheng's long lashes trembled, and she lowered her eyes.
-
Pei Du was waiting.
Waiting for Xu Liuzheng to regret abandoning him.
But then he heard that she had taken someone new in.
-
In an old apartment building, the lights were dim.
Xu Liuzheng came home from work.
In the darkness, a click sounded, and a feeble flame came to life.
She turned back in confusion, only to be pulled into a cold embrace.
The newcomer pressed close to her ear. His voice was eerie and distant, with a hint of gritted teeth.
"Taking him in? Is he as obedient as I am?"
