Reader advisory (things I want to flag):
1. This is a farming story, a farming story, a farming story. It's not romance-focused, and mostly revolves around plot and everyday life.
2. This isn't a wish-fulfillment story or a female power fantasy. The pacing is slow, the identities are revealed slowly, and the relationship progresses slowly. There are 23 free chapters, enough to give readers who don't enjoy this kind of story time to decide if it's for them.
3. At first, there is no sweet romance, only layers of murderous intent. Both characters are innocent in their own ways, so enter with caution.
I've always believed that hatred can't be put aside just because someone says a few nice words. By the logic of this story, after Qin Sheng was brutalized to that extent, it makes perfect sense that she would fixate on killing her sworn enemy. Ling Yan agreed to take the blame as part of her deal with the System, accepted it without complaint, and worked hard to keep living.
Only by spending day after day together and seeing Ling Yan's efforts and sacrifices can Qin Sheng let go of her hatred, realize this Ling Yan isn't the Ling Yan she once knew, and gradually be moved by her pure kindness.
For Qin Sheng, who has suffered so much that she hates everything, this can't happen overnight. If she suddenly learned that her sworn enemy was an outsider from another world, or if Ling Yan told her herself, she would only feel that fate was playing a cruel joke on her, triggering a breakdown and sending things out of control. That would be an extremely bad outcome for Ling Yan.
Given Qin Sheng's ruthless character and the story's plot, I thought an everyday-life approach was the most logical way to resolve the conflict and let the two of them join hands and make it to the end.
The System, the character profiles, and the various storylines, including Gu Jingzhi and Shen Qinglan, all help support the overall narrative. They guide Ling Yan as she settles into the world of the book, gets back on track, uncovers Qin Sheng's secret, and grows strong enough to stand by her through thick and thin.
All things considered, I think I've explained clearly enough why the story is slow-paced.
