The Wealthy Heiress Wants to Break Off the Engagement

Everyone in Beicheng knows that Ye Cheng, the city's most eligible young heir, has a fiancée, Li Qianqian, who clings to him relentlessly.

To marry him, she wishes she could stick by his side twenty-four hours a day.

Whenever Ye Cheng warns her to stop deluding herself, she clutches his hand and humbly tries to please him.

At a party, the Li family suddenly announces that their biological daughter has been found. Li Qianqian is no longer Ye Cheng's fiancée.

Everyone waits to see Li Qianqian make a fool of herself, certain that this woman, crazy in love, will make a scene.

Ye Cheng raises an eyebrow, holding his wineglass as he leisurely waits for Li Qianqian to come beg him to acknowledge her place.

But Li Qianqian simply smiles, lifts her skirt, and strides away, as if she'd just rid herself of a huge burden.

Ye Cheng's breath catches. He rushes after her, and in his haste, the wineglass in his hand tips, spilling red wine down his trouser leg.

"You're really just going to accept it?"

Li Qianqian smiles with satisfaction. "I traded you for five million. Of course I accept."

Li Qianqian has always known she isn't the Li family's biological daughter. She's tried hard to be obedient and sensible, living as if she were walking on thin ice.

She knows her only value to them is as a bargaining chip for an arranged marriage.

To pay for tuition and living expenses, she can only cling desperately to this precarious engagement.

When the real heiress, Li Yuan, returns and demands everything back, Li Qianqian feels that she's doomed to be the novel's supporting villainess: she will be face-slapped, lose everything, and return to an ordinary life.

At the final family banquet, Li Qianqian is packing her bags to leave when she sees Ye Cheng sneer at Li Yuan, his haughty air matching his noble bearing.

"If it weren't for Li Qianqian, do you think the Li family would be worthy of an alliance with mine?"

Li Qianqian: "..."

She suspects he's getting back at her.

She's about to escape the mess when Ye Cheng corners her.

He grips her slender wrist tightly and stares as if he wants to see right through her. "Didn't you like clinging to me? I'm right here. Where are you going?"

Li Qianqian presses her hands together and gives in with a pitiful look. "I was only clinging to you because life left me no choice. I promise I won't do it again. Please, let me go."

Ye Cheng's eyes burn as he grits out three words: "I can't let go."
