Tong Yue died at three in the morning, on her way to work on her little electric scooter, when a big truck ran straight over her.
She arrived in the underworld.
The King of Hell skimmed through her file. "How did you die?"
Tong Yue: "Car accident."
The King of Hell: "Tsk, what an unremarkable death."
Thanks to that unremarkable death, she came back to life. By day, she was an overworked office drone in the world of the living; by night, she worked in the underworld.
As she dutifully did her job, she realized there was something off about this underworld.
The King of Hell had always dreamed of becoming a domineering CEO.
When he learned that Tong Yue had an alcoholic stepfather who was always showing up to beg for money, the CEO in him burst into flames.
Dressed in a sharp suit, with gleaming shoes and hair, he went to Tong Yue's home and flung a stack of bills into her stepfather's face.
"Get lost."
His tone was arrogant and cool, but the money he threw was hell money.
The King of Hell was unreliable, but at least there was the Judge.
The Judge looked refined and pushed up his glasses. "In our line of work, being meticulous is especially important."
Tong Yue nodded. Just as she was listening humbly, her boss in the world of the living called and told her to get her butt into work in the middle of the night.
Tong Yue: "My lord Judge, I might need to take a day off..."
The Judge calmly pulled out the Book of Life and Death and drew a cross through her boss's name.
"Death sentence."
Tong Yue: You said we had to be meticulous!
There's also Ox-Head and Horse-Face, who wear headgear while making their rounds; Lady Meng, whose main job is brewing soup and whose side business is running a bathhouse; and Black Impermanence, a cross-dresser...
Tong Yue finally understood. There wasn't a single normal person here. Was it too late for her to run away?
A silly, sweet comedy. The male lead is the King of Hell. Don't worry, he's not stupid. He's awesome.
