The Angst Novel’s Protagonist Won’t Let Me Cry

As the protagonist of a Mary Sue novel, Ning Yao wakes up every day in a bed eight thousand meters wide. His hair changes color with his mood, and his tears turn into gemstones.

Ning Yao lives a carefree, happy life until one day the System suddenly appears and tells him that he's actually a pampered villainous extra in an angst-heavy power-up novel. The world is about to be corrected, and he'll be sent back into that novel.

In this angst-heavy story, the protagonist, Yu Li, suffers hardship and torment from childhood. He grows cold-hearted, ruthless, and scheming, eventually becoming the most powerful person in the world and destroying it.

When Ning Yao is suddenly dumped into the story, he finds the protagonist standing right in front of him. The divine sword that can split mountains and seas is just a hair's breadth from slicing his throat!

Frightened tears spring from his eyes, and precious, glittering gemstones scatter across the floor.

After a moment of silence, the protagonist lowers his sword, grabs Ning Yao by the collar, and says coldly, “From now on, you will cry out half a box of gemstones every day. Otherwise, I'll kill you.”

“Don't cry,” Yu Li says harshly, holding him gently. “I think you're trying to kill me.”

Ye Yao realizes that he has fallen in love with his friend, Lu Xun.

They eat and sleep together, are practically inseparable, and are each other's best friends.

From years of knowing him, Ye Yao knows that Lu Xun is a textbook straight guy. He's also so handsome and dazzling that he easily attracts men who are into men.

Ye Yao comes clean about part of the truth.

He tells Lu Xun that he's into men, but doesn't say that he likes Lu Xun.

Lu Xun, who usually avoids gay men like the plague, makes an exception for him.

Not only does he stay close, he even watches gay porn with Ye Yao, trying to turn him straight.

“What’s so great about stinky, hard men? Disgusting.” Lu Xun puts an arm around Ye Yao's shoulders and points at the man enthusiastically going at it in the video. “It's exhausting and it stinks. How about we stop liking men?”

Ye Yao is silent for a moment. “You're right about all of that, but... I'm the bottom.”

Lu Xun freezes, then flees in a panic.

Ye Yao thinks this is the end of his friendship with Lu Xun, but at a party one day, he is pulled into a familiar embrace in the darkness.

The usually lazy voice is now full of anger. “Let another man lay a finger on you, and see what happens.”

Ye Yao finally understands.

Lu Xun, the straight-as-a-rod Lu Xun, had already bent into a pretzel for him without even realizing it.
