Ji Xiaosu first met Shen Zhi on a grimy street corner. The young man's knuckles were stained with blood, and his violent appearance made him seem unapproachable.
He had fought ten people at once, and now, exhausted, he was curled up on the ground after being beaten by a blond thug from vocational school. Yet he didn’t make a sound.
Usually docile and sweet, Ji Xiaosu stopped in front of him. Even her friend tried to talk her out of it: “Why are you getting involved? Do you have any idea who Shen Zhi is? And those vocational-school thugs are crazy dogs who don’t care if they kill someone when they beat them up.”
Quiet Ji Xiaosu clenched her fist. In the end, she fearlessly stepped forward and shouted at the blond thugs, “I called the police! They’ll be here any minute...”
After the “crazy dogs” left, Shen Zhi staggered to his feet. His cold, emotionless eyes fixed on the soft little bunny in front of him, and his mouth was as sharp as ever.
“Kid, if you tell anyone what happened today, don’t blame me when I butcher you and eat you.” His dark eyes carried a threat that wasn’t much of a threat, but the curve of his lips gave away how he really felt.

After the typically underdeveloped, hearing-impaired Ji Xiaosu became Shen Zhi’s desk mate, he asked the homeroom teacher skeptically, “Can little kids go to high school now?”
Ji Xiaosu, so furious she snapped her pen in half: “...Can people who score thirty points in math go to high school now?”
Just as everyone expected Shen Zhi to lose his temper, the boy merely smiled and very good-naturedly handed the girl his pen. Shen Zhi, who was usually unruly and didn’t even care what the teachers thought, apologized to her.
Later, after Shen Zhi had won the girl of his dreams, he made a point of thanking the homeroom teacher. “I owe it to you for seating Xiaosu next to me back then. That’s how I managed to win her heart.”
The homeroom teacher didn’t dare take credit. He gave the girl beside the handsome man a meaningful look. “Xiaosu was the one who specifically asked to sit next to you. I was worried you’d lead my top student astray!”
Shen Zhi looked at Ji Xiaosu. “?” Is there something you’ve been hiding from me?
