He's Panicking Now That Our Contract Marriage Is Over

Yuan Yi is the youngest attending chief in the gastroenterology department of the city's Second Hospital. He entered university at fifteen, earned his doctorate at twenty-three, completed his postdoctoral work at twenty-six, and was appointed chief at thirty.

Single, unmarried, and fabulously wealthy, he is everyone's dream catch.

That's how Yuan Yi appears to people who don't know the truth.

Probably only Miao Yiqing in the entire department knows that Yuan Yi is married. His spouse is Miao Yiqing.

On their wedding night, Yuan Yi laid down the rules: Don't mention our relationship at work. I'll transfer the money promised in our agreement at the beginning of every month. Don't bother me unless it's necessary.

Miao Yiqing, who depended on Yuan Yi for food and money, obediently nodded. He kept his head down and his secret perfectly.

No one in their department knew about their relationship for a whole year.

Then, on Christmas Eve, a patient's relative causing a scene slashed Miao Yiqing's face with a fruit knife. The wound came dangerously close to his eye, and blood ran down his face. Yuan Yi, who was on the night shift with him, rushed out of the office, kicked the knife away, and pinned the troublemaker against the wall by the throat. His eyes dark with fury, he said, "How dare you hurt him?"

Later, when Miao Yiqing returned to work after his medical leave, his colleagues surrounded him:

"You and Dr. Yuan got married?"

"You two actually got married?"

"How are you so lucky, getting to be with Dr. Yuan!"

Miao Yiqing could only smile bitterly at everyone calling him lucky. Getting something didn't mean you truly had it. He and Yuan Yi were merely in a marriage of convenience, with money as its foundation.

Later still, when Miao Yiqing transferred to a community hospital and said he was moving out to live alone, Yuan Yi stuck out a leg to block the doorway and stop him from leaving.

Yuan Yi said, "Yiqing, don't go."
