Qiu Yanxue was breathtakingly beautiful, but had mediocre aptitude. He was a vase-like rogue cultivator who could never make it into respectable company.
Because the cinnabar mark between his brows looked just like the late white moonlight of Feng Jili, the Sword Venerable, Feng took a liking to him and brought him into the Hopeful Immortal Sect, a place cultivators eagerly sought to join. Qiu Yanxue rose to the top overnight.
Others envied his incredible luck, while begrudgingly calling him a nameless, titleless stand-in who could never compare to the original, and would surely be cast aside one day.
Feng Jili thought so too.
He never imagined that he would be the one cast aside.
During a massacre to exterminate demons, Feng Jili was gravely wounded by the demon clans. A vicious sword scar appeared on the side of his face, one that would never heal.
Qiu Yanxue, who had always been gentle, suddenly stared at him coldly for a long time. With a bitter smile, he said, as if waking from a dream, "You don't look like him anymore."
For the first time in a hundred years, Qiu Yanxue went down the mountain alone.
Feng Jili gave it little thought, assuming he would come back sooner or later. He never expected that once Qiu Yanxue left, he would never look back.

The snow mountains of the far north collapsed, and the beautiful rogue cultivator Qiu Yanxue went missing.
Feng Jili did not hesitate to ruin his cultivation by forcing his way out of seclusion. He rushed to the far north overnight, only to find Qiu Yanxue buried deep beneath the mountain, and see this scene:
Qiu Yanxue lay with his eyes closed in an ice coffin, covered in frost and nestled in the arms of a dead man. The man looked seven parts like Feng Jili, except that his cheek bore no unnecessary sword scar.
Feng Jili felt as if he had been struck by a blunt blow...
*
In the fierce battle between the demon clans, that man died, his soul extinguished.
With all hope gone, Qiu Yanxue ruined his cultivation and burst his core, plunging into the river. But unexpectedly, his divine sense awakened, and he learned that he was in a cultivation power fantasy novel, playing an irrelevant cannon-fodder stand-in.
The male lead had a white moonlight he had long yearned for since his youth. After that person died, he searched the entire cultivation world for a replacement, and eventually chose Qiu Yanxue.
Qiu Yanxue had no interest in being a stand-in, and couldn't understand why he would ever agree to it.
Then he saw the male lead's face.
Qiu Yanxue: I'm in.
● Sickly beauty rogue cultivator shou x cold and ruthless Sword Venerable gong
● The shou is adored by everyone. Enter at your own risk if you dislike that.
● They're both stand-ins: I'm standing in for myself.
● The male supporting character only exists in the shou's memories. He will not be resurrected, and will always be the shou's white moonlight. Enter at your own risk if you dislike that.
● Probably melodramatic, with a wife-chasing crematorium.
● Couldn't find what I wanted, so I'm writing it myself. I love this deliciously angsty flavor.
Theme: No two leaves in the world are alike. Be your one and only self.
