The day of the funeral.
The sky was a dull gray, and a light rain fell without pause.
Jiang Yueqing wore a long black velvet dress. With her delicate, slender frame, so frail it seemed it might snap in two, she shielded her little brother, who was only seven, and faced the relatives who had come to demand repayment of debts all by herself.
Her lovely, moonlike face was full of exhaustion.
Just as it seemed the funeral was about to be ruined, a man suddenly walked in from outside, silencing the entire gathering.
Black clothes, a close-cropped haircut.
Hard, sharp features.
He was so tall and imposing he seemed like a giant wolf.
Jiang Yueqing thought he had come to collect a debt, too. She was so scared that a tear caught on her lower lashes.
She stared blankly as he stopped in front of her, raised an arm, and caught the trembling tear with a slight bend of his fingers.
"Don't cry."

It turned out that the man who had arrived at the funeral was none other than Mr. Huo, the notorious mogul of Jincheng. They said he had climbed to his current position by all sorts of underhanded means.
He offered to protect her and her brother, on the condition that he needed a wife with a spotless background.
The two soon got married.
At first, Jiang Yueqing was afraid of him, but as time passed, she found that Huo Wendiao was unexpectedly considerate and respectful of boundaries as a husband.
Little by little, she let her guard down.
One time, the man came home injured. She took some gauze to treat his wounds, but he caught her by the hand instead.
The contrast between their skin tones was striking. His arm was twice as thick as hers, his taut muscles seeming to hold something back.
"Are you sure you can take responsibility for what you're doing?"
At first Jiang Yueqing didn't understand. But when she saw a certain part of him, her face instantly turned red.
So the man desired her, too.
-
Everyone thought Huo Wendiao had taken Jiang Yueqing away on a whim, picking up a rain-soaked sparrow to keep as a pet.
That was until a video came out. Jiang Yueqing wore a cherry-pink qipao as the tall man in a black trench coat pulled her into his arms with one hand and kissed her passionately.
Not long after,
Huo Wendiao made a public appearance himself, posting a wedding photo: "My little moon, @Jiang Yueqing"
No one knew that Huo Wendiao had been waiting all along.
Waiting until he had absolute power, so he could hold his moon in his arms and never let go, even in death.
