The Fallen Kingdom's Princess

The Great Zhou dynasty fell, and the imperial capital was conquered. Prince of Pingyuan Ji Heng led his army into the palace. Amid the flying snow and sea of blood, he saw a little girl in thin clothes and barefoot, walking between the corpses as she cried and searched for her mother.

Ji Heng had spent twenty years at war, killing countless people. His heart had long since turned to stone, but for some reason, in that moment, he softened. He lifted the little girl onto his horse, took the reins, and step by step, beneath the moonlight, led her toward the towering palace shrouded in darkness.

The new emperor kept the former dynasty's little princess by his side, cherishing her like a precious jewel. When the princess came of age, the Empress Dowager began arranging a marriage for her, but no one at court dared to take her as a bride.

That was because a palace maid had once seen the Emperor emerge from the little princess's bedchamber late at night, sleeves rolled up, eyes brimming with warmth, looking thoroughly satisfied.

Within the hibiscus-curtained bed, warm fragrance drifted through the air. Ji Heng put on his nightclothes and bent to stroke the little beauty's face. His voice was gentle, yet carried a hint of menace. "I heard Yinyin wants to marry out of the palace?"

Qin Yin froze for a moment, then immediately pushed herself up, her body aching, and threw herself into his arms. Her slender hands clung to his shoulders as she said sweetly, "Yinyin has only ever had Your Majesty in her heart."
