Longing for Spring's Light

As she lay dying, Shen Wan finally realized she was the foil of a supporting female character in a story. Born into privilege, she was forced to fall into ruin. To clear her family's name, she fought the heroine for credit, affection, and the position of empress, struggling her way from the Prince of Xining's manor all the way to the imperial capital. In the end, the heroine was showered with favor and became the cinnabar mole in the emperor's heart, while Shen Wan spent her final days in the Cold Palace, unmourned by anyone. When Shen Wan awoke from her dream, she was still a young physician at the Prince of Xining's manor. At that time, the emperor was only the eldest imperial grandson. After an assassination attempt, he waited eagerly for Shen Wan to come treat him. Remembering her past life, Shen Wan felt utterly ill-fated. She walked right past him and went to treat his young uncle, the Prince of Xining, first. Let them do whatever they wanted. She wasn't getting involved. The Prince of Xining protected one person for his entire life. The girl who grew up by his side forgot him and instead fell into someone else's arms. The day he led his iron cavalry into the imperial capital, he heard the tragic news that she had died of illness. The Prince of Xining fell silent for a long moment, then laid a withered plum blossom before her tent. A tear fell softly onto a crimson petal. Alas, she would never see it. In this life, the Prince of Xining was still the same ill-tempered young man. Gravely ill, he used the bitterness of his medicine as an excuse to glare and order everyone to leave. When his gaze landed on Shen Wan, it lingered for a moment. Then he said, "That includes you." "Your Highness, I'm not leaving." Shen Wan slowly crouched beside him and boldly leaned against his knee. Her eyes, gazing up at him, were filled with stars. "My medicine is sweet." Theme: I decide my own fate, not Heaven.
